Classroom News: March 12th

Dear Barn Swallow families,

We now have enough adult volunteers for both trips! If you are still interested in joining us, we still welcome you, as more adults are always helpful. (The trips are March 14th and March 21st from 9:00 to 2:15.)

Please help your child to be prepared for chilly and wet weather for both of these trips. Comfortable walking shoes/boots that will stay dry, waterproof jackets that do not absorb the rain, warm layers, hoods/waterproof hats, waterproof gloves/mittens, rain pants and anything else that will allow your child to stay comfortable while exploring in the chilly woods will greatly benefit the experience for everyone! (Please label your child's belongings, if you haven't already done so.) An additional packed outfit will also be beneficial in case your child needs to change when we return to the school.

Students have been working very hard on publishing their fictional animal tales. We look forward to sharing them with you during our Student Led Conferences, which take place on Thursday, April 12th. Sign-ups for the conference will be in the office after spring break.

Not only have students been working hard on publishing their stories, they have also been researching animals for our class Treasure Book, which will be an Oregon forest animal field guide. Students will be starting their final drawings this week. All research and drawings will be completed by our publishing date, which is March 22nd. Treasure Book forms will be sent home, which gives you the opportunity to purchase your child's book. Purchasing is optional, but the company does require that everyone returns the form. The students are very excited to see their final book!

This Thursday, we plan on planting carrots, beets, and other vegetables in the raised beds in the garden. We also hope to start tomato and pepper transplants to grow indoors. Last week students planted radishes and lettuce in their new garden beds. Ask your child if anything has grown in his or her garden bed!

If you are interested in helping with our level 1 gardeners on Thursdays, please let me know, as more adults are always helpful in the garden!

Thank you families!

Sincerely,
Sherry

Classroom News: March 5th

Dear Barn Swallow Families,

As you know, we have two trips to the great outdoors scheduled for March! The first trip to the Tillamook Forest is coming up quickly, next Wednesday, March 14th. I currently have two volunteers confirmed to join us. Would you like to join us for one of our last big trips this school year? We will need at least two to three more adults to join us to make the trip a safe success.

I also have two confirmed volunteers for the next trip to the forest, which is on Wednesday, March 21st. Again, we will need at least two or three more adults to join us.

We will be leaving the school for both trips at 9:00 and returning to school by 2:15. You are welcome to join us on the bus, or you can meet us at the Tillamook Forest Center.

We hope to be able to make both trips. Thank you for all of your support this school year!

Please help your child to be prepared for chilly, and possibly wet weather for both of these trips. Comfortable walking shoes/boots that will stay dry, waterproof jackets that do not absorb the rain, warm layers, hoods/hats, and anything else that will allow your child to stay comfortable while exploring in the chilly woods will be necessary and greatly benefit the experience for everyone!

If you are interested in joining us the the Backyard Garden on our Thursday gardening Out and Abouts we always welcome you! With springtime coming, we are getting into the soil more and more and can't wait to see how much we can grow!

Thank you Barn Swallow families!

Sincerely,
Sherry
