Dear Barn Swallow Families
On May 1st the Barn Swallows celebrated May Day by making May Day baskets. We read about honey bees and students worked on their 'Parts of a Flower' posters. First graders worked on measuring in math class. They began the week learning about non-standard measurements (hand spans, unifix cubes and popsicle sticks) and used these methods for measuring in the classroom. On Wednesday and Thursday, they began measuring in inches during the 'Measurement Olympics.' The students worked in teams playing games that involved measuring distance. Second graders worked on various activities with place value. They also reviewed subtraction and will soon begin regrouping with subtraction. On Thursday we planted flower and spinach seeds indoors. We're hoping for some spring weather on Thursdays for Out & Abouts!
Friday, May 25th will be our All-School Talent Show. It's not a contest, but a time to share talents, interests, and hobbies. Many of our level one students have signed up to perform. There will be a dress rehearsal at 3:00 on Thursday, the 24th for all children that plan to participate. If your child has signed up, but is not able to make it to the rehearsal, please contact Karen Torry at K.Torry@fgcschool.org. All families are welcome to join us for the Talent Show!
Sincerely,
Sherry
