Last week we worked on creating shadow puppet stories that the students shared with each other during our 'spooky story sharing time.' (Take a look at the photographs in the album to the right to see our shadows!) In math the first grade students worked on sorting and graphing. Second graders continued to work on telling time and place value. On Thursday we spent the day at Jackson Bottom Wetland learning about owls and other birds, and taking a walk to find signs of wildlife. The students had opportunities to try tools that helped them understand how various birds have adaptations that allow them to successfully eat various foods. They used binoculars to observe birds in the wetland, and they learned about how feathers serve several needs for birds. The students did a great job asking interesting questions and sharing information. Thank you to Jason, Richard, Carrie, and Rachelle for volunteering!
Home bags came home on Monday! Please note that with Veteran's Day next Monday, the home bags will be coming back to school on Tuesday. We encourage all families to work with their child through the homework pieces, as immediate feedback is most valuable for our first and second graders!
Thank you families!
Sincerely,
Sherry
